CAPTAIN COOK'S PETRELS RAGE ON!

Howdy, Seabirders,

This is a brief report of today's Cook's Petrel chase trip on Monterey Bay today. Highlights on the beautiful, calm day which covered three counties (Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo) included: 22 COOK'S PETRELS, sitting in a flock on the ocean, offering our best and closest views yet and pleasing many of the excellent photographers on board; 3 BULLER'S SHEARWATERS; 5 XANTUS' MURRELETS; the first of fall ASHY STORM-PETRELS for Monterey Bay; a "grand slam" on all of the jaegers + SOUTH POLAR SKUA.

The marine mammal show wasn't too bad either: 1 SEI WHALE, 2 BLUE WHALES, 3 FIN WHALES, 35 HUMPBACK WHALES and a variety of dolphins.

Many thanks to all of the folks who traveled a long distance to join us today, including some who flew in from out of state. It was a very, very satisfying seabirding day on Monterey Bay! A full report will come later.
